Brown Memorial Park in Norwich on Saturday. The event was organized by the Norwich branch of the NAACP to celebrate the anniversary of the day in 1865 that Union soldiers, led by Major Gen. Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the Civil War had ended and that slaves were free. Carrion and Knox are members of Artistik Xpressions, a drama group based in New Haven, that gave a mime performance.
